I couldn't agree with you more. Retirement, as we speak of it in western culture, is not a biblical concept, even in Genesis immediately after the fall, God's decree to Adam is "for your sake, you will toil", for our sake, catch that? It was normative in the old testament for heroes of the scripture to be at the fore front of their purpose and ministry well into their advanced years, even up until death. From a more modern or pragmatic (if you like) perspective, the average life span after formal retirement (western male)is 2.7 years.That being said, I do believe there is wisdom in stewarding your income that you aren't so tethered to eeking out a living later in life. This should give you freedom to pursue a more meaningful second halfof your life, as opposed to fading out on a golf course somewhere. There is a great book titled Half Time, that adresses this very topic as well a s an entire ministry (by the same name)aimed at helping folks make this career transition later in life.
