Leadership 101*

I can’t hardly sit still or gather my words thinking about this simple leadership idea.

  • I read "Leading with a Limp" this summer and one of the positive characteristics of a leader was reluctance. A lot of great leaders, e.g. Moses had to be dragged into leadership. The idea was that some people who actively seek leadership are seeking glory for themselves and can lead arrogantly. The reluctant leader knows that they haven't arrived and remains dependent on God. I think that is the attitude maybe that you were reacting against. Not to say that you should have to drag anyone to a leadership retreat.
  • I really like that take on it. This particular idea was that this person was saying that they already knew how to lead so they were fine. My frustration is that thinking you know how to lead is the first sign that you don't know how to lead. However, we should find confidence in our learning and experience but always know that great leaders are always learning.

Thanks for the comment! I won't shoot you from my deer stand. ;)
